Part I - Utah

Nothing says "welcome home!" from a 10 day vacation like a couple of rotten bananas on the counter and a forecast for a week of 108 degrees. Despite both, and the fact that our trip was pretty great, we are glad to be back home.

For some reason, trip recaps are my least favorite posts to write, maybe because they seem so daunting. Maybe because I take too many pictures. I do love reading them later, though, so post them, I must.

Overall, Dan and I concluded that this was probably our best visit yet. Ava was entertained by her two older girl cousins in each respective location (Utah and Idaho), Luke, notorious for being a heavy whiner, really held back this trip, and Max, other than being absolutely glued to Dan like I have never seen before and contracting a case of strep throat on day 5 of 10, didn't do so bad himself. And the ability to spend time with our family makes up for the hard parts.

After the first night, I downloaded a white noise app on my phone and slept much better. It's funny because for the last 6 years, I have conditioned myself to hear my children in my sleep. I can wake to hear them from down the hall, between closed doors, upstairs when I am down, etc. which is a pretty good deal, no need for baby monitors anymore. I've come a long way since the days I fell asleep in the movie theater. During Independence Day. Twice. Now my only problem is, when I sleep in the same room with them, I still wake up to their every noise, cough, toss, turn, and of course cry, even when I try my hardest to sleep through it. Enter the white noise app. Once I had that, I heard mostly "extreme heavy rain" mixed with the occasional cry and cough.

Upon arriving in Utah, we did a quick stop in Sandy before heading up to Midway. In my opinion, summertime in the mountains, might be one of the few things that qualifies as heaven on earth.

I could not, could not, COULD NOT get over the weather. Why it felt so much different than any other summer trip we've taken, I'm not sure, maybe because we had been beating heat records here in Dallas for the whole month prior to our trip. We hadn't been going outside at all.

And then, all of the sudden, not only were we going outside, we were sitting in the sunshine, we were feeling a little breeze, we were enjoying walks, tennis, swimming, an outdoor concert, all without a moment of feeling hot or cold. Just perfect.

One evening we went into Heber and enjoyed some music and Kentucky Fried Chicken in the park.

Aaron knew just how to make Max laugh.

Luke zoned out in his chair.

Ava and Dan got to go on this free carriage ride, thanks to a gentleman who "just wants to make memories for kids".

And Charlie entertained us by being just plain cute.

We finished up a wonderful weekend with a couple of days in Sandy.

Of course, the weather continued to amaze us and we played some games in the backyard.

Ava posed with the horse book, a gift from Grandma Linda, from which she was almost never separated throughout the remainder of the trip.

Wendy's dogs Ollie and Pippen, were loved by Ava and Max, the whole time.

I am just realizing that I somehow got away without any pictures of the Krommenhoeks. Even though there are no pictures to prove they were there, we can say with a surety, the company on this trip was wonderful.

The weather was phenomenal.

The memories, unforgettable.

Just when I was thinking there wouldn't be any pictures of Wendy-and that would be a shame-you got one! But that picture of Aaron was not enough and what about his brother! They aren't still 3 and 5 but that is how I remember them. It looks like the weather was great-I wish we had that here in WI!
