Max Plans for the Future
Max runs into my room with his clothes for the day.
"Max! You got your clothes! You are so grown up!" I say.
"I am growing up. I'm a big boy," he says.
"Well, you better stop. I need you to stay my baby forever."
"But, Mom! I want to grow up and be a daddy."
"Hmmm. Ok. I want you to be a daddy too. I'll make a deal with you--you can grow up as long as you promise you"ll always be my baby."
"Ok, Mom. I will be your baby. I'm going to be a daddy and I am going to wear daddy clothes. And have black hair. And you think I'm still gonna use my big boy bed when I'm a daddy, Mom?"
"I bet you have a big bed just like me and daddy do," I say.
"When I grow up and I'm a daddy, can I marry you, Mom?"
"Well, I'm already married to Dad. You will grow up and meet a really nice girl and you will want to marry her."
"No, I want to marry you, Mom."
"But I'm already married, Max."
He pauses to think.
"Can I marry Grandma?" he counters.
"She's married to Grandpa."
Thinking some more.
"I'm not going to get married."

Max and Dallin can have a club. We have had similar discussions at our house. Dallin tried to work it that maybe Dad would retire and leave a vacancy for him to fill. I love my boys.
