The Beach

We'd been planning, but never been to the beach in Galveston. Honestly we had heard it was kind of gross. We were pleasantly surprised with both the opportunity and the lack of grossness.

We first stopped at a public beach and being the morning it was a bit chilly. But the beach was clean and empty.

Getting ready

Dad and his girl

A little family shot, minus Dan's face

We waded in the water and after a few minutes, the temperature was actually tolerable.

Don and Linda were still a bit cold!

Ava didn't seem to think it was too cold. She had quite the fit when we decided to leave for lunch!

Kickin' up her heels

I had Luke in the sling for a while but he really just wanted to get down. I wondered how that would go and could just picture him doing the "inch worm" and dragging his belly through the wet sand. But then I remembered the secret weapon--food! He sat on the blanket and ate his graham cracker.

Don't you just love a little picnic on the beach?

Luke and the ladies

After a lunch break at Chili's (thanks, Don!) we headed back to the beach. By this time the sun had come out and we went to "Stewart Beach".

I didn't take as many pictures here because I had a baby to wrangle, but Ava just had a blast playing in the water and sand.

Ava "makes a sandcastle" at every opportunity (in the dirt or mulch at the park and sometimes at the table she turns her cup upside down, like you turn over a bucket of sand and says, "It's okay, I just making a sandcastle.")

This time she could really make a sandcastle.

Unfortunately we didn't do a great job with the sunscreen application and both my babies got a little burned here and there.

Overall, great trip and now that we know it's not nasty, we'll be back!

I really loved visiting the beach! It would be fun to go back and take some tours of those great old houses and whatnot.

Good times!

I'm jealous you're so close to the beach! Looks like you had a great time.

I'm jealous of having weather that's warm enough to visit the beach in! We are cold and blustery here.

Super cute pix!

Sorry Elise, I may have been the one to put the thought in your head of Galveston being nasty. It's not "nasty" I just didn't want you to expect a southern Cali beach! It is fun and we should go together soon! What are you doing the 11th? Jorgie has that day off school and it's Jordan's friday off (which should be Dan's too...I think they are on the same schedule)...maybe we could make a fun daytrip - that is if you're not to embarrased to hit the beach with a whale! :)
