When my family moved from our home in Kansas, when I was eight years old, one of the saddest things we left behind was on the wall of our garage. From top to bottom, that wall was covered in hash marks illustrating the physical growth of all six of us kids. Having been born there myself, all the way up to my 18 year old brother, we literally covered the whole wall.
And as I was so blatantly reminded at Max's well check this week, my kids aren't getting any smaller.
My board needs a little sanding and maybe some paint, but soon it will be the Measuring Stick and at least if we move, I won't have to leave it behind.
Max is 32.5 lbs and 34.5 " tall. That puts him in the 97% for both categories. The doctor said, "He's a 1 and a half year old child in a 2 and half year old's body!"
He might be the first one I mark on our stick!
Three years ago, Dan and I went on a cruise. We had the best time. You might remember that because I had about three posts dedicated to describing every detail.
It made a perfect getaway for us because it was
a) relatively inexpensive
b) not too far of a drive to the port
c) all you can eat
d) the perfect 4 day length
e) relaxing
f) all you can eat
g) beautiful scenery
h) totally hassle-free way to travel
i) all you can eat
So we decided to do it the next year. And then a little thing called the Swine Flu came along. In order to avoid all stops in Mexico, the cruise line rearranged their summer schedule and in so doing had to cancel 2 of their 30+ scheduled trips. Ours was one of them.
So we decided to do it the next year. Then along came a little thing called A Mostly Unexpected Move. And in all irony, the packers showed up to our house the day we were scheduled to leave port.
So we decided to do it the next year (this year). So, as long as nothing big (or little) comes up, we will be on our long awaited cruise in just two short weeks! Third times the charm right?
Luke brought me the sweetest little card home from his preschool this week.
I swear the questionnaires they fill out are one of my very favorite parts of Mother's Day.
My mom's name is "Em" (uhhh, close buddy)
Her favorite color is "blue"
She always tells me about "an egg and candy" (Your guess is as good as mine. Easter, maybe?)
Her favorite song is "ballgame" (this one cracks me up mostly because that is Take Me Out to the Ballgame, which is his favorite song)
She like to eat "cheese and crackers" (can't argue with that)
She is "4 years old"
In her spare time she likes to "play with toys"
Finally, I was reminded today what a resourceful man I married. When our trampoline was installed, they had to level the ground and ended up burying portions of the base. That means when it comes time to mow, you can't move it.
Dan didn't let that stop him though.
Nobody can say he's not a problem solver.

Cute blog! I love it. That Mother's Day Card is hilarious. That is impressive mowing under the trampoline too. I'm jealous of your cruise. Maybe someday we can get a group of us together and do something like that.
Has is really been that long since we tried to cruise together?? :( Hope you have a wonderful time this year and that everything goes smoothly and perfectly!
PS - how is it possible that Max is a year and half old??
PPS- Jordan wants to know why Dan doesn't have long pants and safety glasses on...didn't he learn better from bp??
I helped in a Kindergarten class this week, filling out those types of cards. One of the sentences was "My Mom doesn't like to....", and one kid answered "Do drugs very much." Ha!!
Have a great Mother's Day and a great time on that cruise!
You lucked out on the Mom is 4 years old, last year Lynlee said I was 86!! Way off, this year I got a 34, I sat her down and drilled her, I'M ONLY 30!!
