Yesterday afternoon, over pink playdough,
I got my first unsolicited "I love you" from my child. We were building a snowman (a dough man, really) and his bed, and blanket, and table, and light and out of the blue, with no prompting or asking (which I admit, I sometimes do) , Ava said, "I love you, Mom."
It took 2 and a half years but the words felt just as sweet as I'd hoped.

Yippeee! Hoo Haaa! You're the MOMMA! Did ya do a little dance? I love you!I don't think I ever kept track. I'm not sure my ego could have handled it.
That is the BEST!!!
Does Ava know just how happy that made you?
Don't feel bad about asking - I do it all the time! LOL
And on the playdough...yours looks pretty bright pink. Did you use food coloring or the Kool-Aid packet? I used food coloring for years and years and then someone told me about the Kool-Aid. Not only does it give the most vibrant colors, it smells wonderful!!!!
Wendy, I forgot about this...Dan made that playdough for Ava and he used food coloring. I have never heard about using the kool aid packets. That is a great idea! Thanks! And yes, Ava knows how happy it made me cause about 5 minutes later, she started acting up and I said, "Ava," in the mad mommy tone and she looked up and said, "I love you, Mom". She is the master or manipulation!
